Migration Safaris

A Tanzania Migration Safari offers one of the most remarkable wildlife experiences on Earth. Known as the Great Migration, this natural phenomenon takes place across the vast plains of Serengeti National Park, where over two million wildebeests, zebras, and gazelles move in a continuous journey in search of fresh grass and water. This incredible movement of animals is considered one of the “Seven Natural Wonders of Africa” and attracts travellers, photographers, and wildlife enthusiasts from around the world.

The migration is a year-round safari experience that changes with the seasons, offering unique wildlife encounters in different parts of the Serengeti ecosystem. Between December and March, the southern Serengeti and Ndutu plains become the calving grounds, where thousands of wildebeest calves are born every day. This season brings outstanding predator action as lions, cheetahs, leopards, and hyenas closely follow the herds. From April to June, the migration begins moving north through the central and western Serengeti, creating dramatic scenes of endless animal columns crossing the plains.

One of the most famous moments of the migration takes place between July and October when the herds face the dangerous Mara River crossings in northern Serengeti National Park. Here, wildebeests courageously leap into crocodile-filled waters while predators wait nearby, creating unforgettable safari moments filled with excitement and raw nature. These crossings are among the most photographed wildlife events in the world and provide visitors with exceptional game-viewing opportunities.
